How to treat severe pain for a broken tooth
A broken tooth may often give rise to severe pain and discomfort. This is because a large crack or break in a tooth exposes the nerve.
If you cannot immediately see a dentist, here are some measures you can take to lessen the pain from a broken tooth:
- You can buy over-the-counter pain relievers like Ibuprofen and rinse your mouth with warm salt water three times a day.
- Buy a Dental Emergency kit from the Pharmacy to cover any rough edges of the tooth to avoid the sharp edges from cutting the inside of your mouth.
- Eats oft foods and do not use your broken tooth to eat so that you can avoid further damage
- Get a dental appointment as soon as possible.
Our dentists repair broken teeth
Our dentist will assess the condition of your mouth and perform an x-ray on the affected tooth to determine the extent of damage. If a small piece or just a corner of the tooth has fractured, then usually it can be repaired with a composite filling in one appointment. However, if there is severe damage then you might need to undergo more extensive dental procedures such as a dental crown or tooth extraction.
